April 03, 2023 in architecture

SITIO’s La Joya Gardens project started construction this week in Detroit’s Southwest neighborhood. This mixed-use development brings urban vitality to a longstanding vacant block along a main street corridor. At the ground level, retail storefronts face the street creating vibrant spaces within a lush landscaped plaza. At the center is a community pavilion that provides a welcoming location for social gathering and local events. La Joya, which means “jewel” in Spanish, was a name chosen by residents during the project’s extensive community engagement process.
