Vienna MetroWest TOD is the creation of a new transit oriented development (TOD) that inserts the residential density, services, amenities and feel of a vibrant urban place into a suburban location. With a density consisting of more than 20 units per acre with ample support amenities, this project was designed on the principles of reduced vehicle use, walkable streets, accessible public open space and advanced stormwater management strategies. The project set out to embody the intrinsic environmental benefits that transit oriented developments exhibit—residential density, reliance on public transit, decreased energy consumption—  and amplify them by reducing parking spaces per unit to 1.6, creating pedestrian-oriented boulevards and an integrated stormwater management strategy that acts as a central organizing element to the open space design.
